School Model

Students holding up a flag at DIA

We follow a two-way dual language model at DIA

This educational approach, also known as two-way immersion, brings together native English speakers and native Spanish speakers in the same classroom to promote bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural competence for all students. Both English and Spanish are treated as languages of instruction—not as foreign languages.

At DIA, each grade level includes 24 English-dominant and 24 Spanish-dominant students, evenly split into two groups with a balanced mix of language backgrounds. Students spend half of their day learning in English (focusing on Math and English Language Arts) and half of their day learning in Spanish (focusing on Spanish Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies).
